The Charter
Surf-Focused, Owner-Operated Charter
Wave Hunter is a 70-foot vessel offering one of the best-value surf charters in the Mentawais. With space for up to 16 guests but maximum 12 on shared open trips, this surf-focused boat delivers reliable comfort and unbeatable access to the region’s best waves. The charter is powered by two 280-horsepower Mitsubishi engines and cruises at a steady 10 knots. Two experienced owners who live locally run the boat and often stay onboard to manage everything from surf guiding to daily logistics. Guests can enjoy stunning views of the ocean from the large top deck or relax in the shaded dining area between sessions. Wave Hunter also carries snorkelling and fishing gear, as well as two dinghies for fast surf transfers. Itineraries are flexible and focused on finding the best waves across the Mentawais, Telos and Banyaks.
Accommodation
Wave Hunter sleeps up to 16 guests in comfortable, shared air-conditioned cabins. There are two double-bed couple cabins, ideal for pairs or solo travellers looking for extra space and privacy when available. When running shared trips the group is accommodated in 12 dorm-style beds, each with its own privacy curtain, reading light and fresh cotton linen. Shared bathrooms are kept clean by the crew, and fresh water showers available after long sessions in the surf. The top deck offers panoramic views of the surrounding lineups and plenty of space to relax. There’s also a shaded dining area and indoor salon to hang out between sessions. Rooms are basic but well-maintained, and the crew keeps things tidy throughout the trip.

THE SURF
Iconic Breaks and Hidden Gems
Wave Hunter operates flexible surf trips across the Mentawais, Telos and Banyaks, chasing the best swell and wind combinations to get you into world-class waves. You can expect to surf everything from heavy, hollow barrels to playful long walls and mellow reef breaks as well. The onboard guides work closely with the captain to make daily calls and avoid the crowds. Having two tenders allows for easy transfers to different lineups and ensures minimal waiting time. The boat is ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers looking to maximise water time and score quality waves. Whether you’re chasing iconic spots or exploring hidden corners of the archipelago, Wave Hunter puts you in the right place at the right time.
DINING

The meals on Wave Hunter are fresh, filling and designed to keep you energised for long sessions. The onboard chef prepares a mix of Western favourites and Indonesian classics using locally sourced ingredients. Expect dishes like grilled fish, chicken curry, pasta, rice, vegetables and fresh fruit, with plenty of snacks in between. Breakfasts include eggs, toast, pancakes, and tropical fruits. Meals are served buffet-style in the shaded dining area, and cold drinks are always available. Special diets can be catered for with advance notice.
EXPERIENCES
Fishing and Island Adventures
Let's be honest, this trip is about the surf. But the odd time when you’re not surfing, Wave Hunter has plenty to offer. The boat carries snorkelling gear, two paddleboards, fishing rods and two dinghies so guests can stay active between sessions. Paddle out to explore nearby reefs, cast a line off the back deck, or grab a mask and fins to spot tropical fish. The crew is happy to organise beach barbecues and dinghy missions to nearby islands. You can also enjoy a movie night under the stars or kick back on the top deck with a drink. The trip is fully surf-focused but leaves room for extra fun and spontaneous adventures along the way.
