The Charter
BIGGER IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER
Tengirri is a sharp, fast Australian-built and purpose-built surf charter made for smaller crews who want real access to the remote corners of the Sumatran archipelago. With a maximum of eight guests onboard, you avoid instant crowds and don’t need to rally a big group to make a lifetime trip happen. Her nimble nature, paired with top-notch surf guiding built over two decades in the islands, plus a solid crew and great food, delivers a focused wave-hunting experience. A strong option for friends or families chasing quality, flexibility, and excellent value on a proper Indo boat trip.
Accommodation
Tengirri keeps accommodation simple, comfortable, and well thought out for small crews. She sleeps up to eight guests across six cabins: two doubles, two twins, and two singles, so everyone gets their own bed. If you’re sailing with six, everyone gets their own cabin. All cabins and indoor spaces are fully air-conditioned. Life onboard spills outside onto three covered decks (lower stern, upper stern, and bow), perfect for post-surf hangs, wave watching, or chilling. The charter comes with free Starlink, plus a solid movie library, music system, books, and board games to keep evenings easy and relaxed.

THE SURF
EXPERIENCE BEATS NUMBERS
Itineraries focus on the Mentawais or the northern route through Telos, Nias, Hinako and up to the Banyak Islands in North Sumatra. The real edge here is experience and numbers. With over two decades running surf charters in these islands, the guiding sits firmly at the top tier. Fewer guests onboard means no instant crowds and more freedom to move when conditions change. The small group can still be split using two tender boats, whether some want to chase barrels while others look for fun walls. Sessions are backed by complimentary photo and video coverage using DSLR cameras, so the memories don’t fade once you’re home.
THE FOOD
GOOD FUEL
Tengirri keeps food straightforward and on point. Expect a rotating mix of Indonesian, Asian and Western plates cooked fresh by an experienced onboard chef. Light early breakfasts roll into proper cooked breakfasts after the first surf. Lunches are hearty but easy to digest, while dinners lean into comfort classics with rice, salads and veg. Fresh fruit, snacks, coffee, soft drinks and juices are always available, plus a generous supply of 30 cartons of cold Bintangs included per trip. Special diets can be handled if flagged ahead of time.
EXPERIENCES
BETWEEN SESSIONS
When not surfing, there's more fun stuff in the menu. The boat carries proper fishing gear and the crew takes it seriously, with rich waters offering tuna, wahoo, GTs and more. Anything you land can go straight to the galley for dinner. Clear, warm water makes snorkelling and SUP paddling an easy reset between sessions, and the dinghy opens access to local villages, empty beaches and bonfires. Onboard you’ll also find books, magazines, movies, music and fast Starlink internet, so downtime is also at hand.
