A classic craft, still scoring

D’Bora is a classic 80ft Indonesian-built surf charter that’s been running the islands since 2007. Spacious, stable, and purpose-built for surfers, she blends traditional craftsmanship with proven reliability. With proper yearly maintenance and a loyal base of returning guests, D’Bora stands out as one of the best value-for-money options in the more economic range. The stern’s top deck is the social hub where most meals happen, with front-row seats to some of the best waves on the planet. Inside, the saloon is a great escape from the sun with nice details in wood. Quality guides, a solid crew, and a powerful speedboat ensure you’re always in the right spot, whether it’s the Mentawai, Telos or North.

Accommodation

Lots of wood and space

D’Bora sleeps maximum 10 guests on standard charters but can accommodate 12 comfortably across three air-conditioned cabins: one main bunk cabin with 8 berths and two private bunk cabins with 2 berths each. The setup keeps things practical yet spacious, finished in solid wood with plenty of airflow. The indoor saloon has a large sofa, movie library, and breakfast bar, a mellow space to cool off or watch footage between surfs. All indoor areas have AC. The social heart of the boat is under the roof of the top deck where most meals are served and the Bintangs flow after long days in the water.

THE SURF

Two decades of good calls

Running mainly across the Mentawais, D’Bora chases quality and consistency in one of the best surf areas on Earth. When conditions line up, she can also venture north to the Telos, and occasionally to the Banyaks, stopping in Asu and Bawa, on request or pre-scheduled trips. With seasoned surf guides who know the hidden gems and read the so-called low season better than most, plus a fast aluminum tender with 300HP, guests can split groups and reach empty peaks fast. Expect everything from playful walls to perfect barrels, all guided by real local knowledge earned over years in the islands.

THE FOOD

What keeps you going

D’Bora keeps surfers properly fuelled from dawn. Early mornings start with fresh fruit, cereals, and strong Sumatran coffee to head out quick. A hot breakfast post-surf follows (think omelets, burritos, or pancakes). Lunch brings high-energy plates like fish burgers, satay, or nasi goreng. Dinner is a hearty buffet with themed nights: roast lamb, BBQs, or Italian night, all using fresh fish, meats, and local produce. When the fishing is on, expect sashimi with sunset beers, as three cold Bintangs a day are complimentary!

EXPERIENCES

Simple, real and old school

Days on D’Bora are all about the ocean. When the surf’s done or you’re underway cruising between spots, drop a line to catch dinner, snorkel over coral reefs, or take the tender to explore nearby islands, local villages, and pristine beaches. Evenings end how they should, with a beach bonfire or a mellow hang on deck, sharing stories over cold beers and good food.
