The Resort
THE ONLY ONE OF ITS KIND
On Morotai, the northernmost island of the Maluku archipelago exposed to the Pacific, lies a gem like no other: Moro Ma Doto. With an opposite season to most of Indonesia’s Indian Ocean regions, it’s one of our favourite picks for couples, families, and friends during the Northern Hemi winters. The villas combine exceptional design, function, and quality that feel almost unreal in such a remote corner of Indonesia. There are three breaks out front and a lot more surfing possibilities in close reach suiting all levels. Check the experiences below for what to do in and out of the water when you’re not surfing truly uncrowded waves, or unwind at the Jungle Rock Spa, also counting with sauna and ice bath.
Accommodation
Set on Morotai Island’s Pacific edge, Moro Ma Doto offers private villas composed of separate suites that can be booked individually, sharing spacious living areas and infinity pools. They can also be reserved as full 2-bedroom villas or an entire 4-bedroom compound. Built with natural stone, hardwood, thatched roofs, and glass, the villas balance refined design with raw nature. For simpler stays, more accessible rooms are also available.

THE SURF
Indo Pacific’s richest
Overlooking a gorgeous bay home to three breaks: a more challenging A-frame that gets slabby with size, a fun, longer horseshoe left, and a mellower left down the line for beginners. But that’s not it. Venture up the coast and you’ll find more Indo-quality waves: barreling lefts & rights, cruisey walls, and more. A guide/photographer on site calls the best shots so you never miss out, with access to other breaks by boat, by car, or by bike. Also a jetski on request for support and fun. Swell season starts with bigger, less frequent typhoon swells in September, followed by smaller but more consistent North Pacific pulses. Either way, you’ll rarely see another surfer around. DINING
Real garden+sea to table
Fresh produce from the resort’s organic garden and locally caught seafood set the base for Moro Point's kitchen. Expect crafted Indonesian dishes, but also pizzas straight from the wood-fired oven, freshly made pastas, salads and other western classics. The breakfasts are next level and, for the sweet tooth, you will find different cakes everyday. Cocktails hit just right overlooking the bay, and meals feel relaxed, genuine, and full of flavor. Since it's the only actual restaurant on the island, taking the full board meal plan is key.
EXPERIENCES
Real, diverse and abundant
When surf time ends, Moro Ma Doto offers serious downtime with adventure on the side. Birdwatchers will find rare species hidden in the jungle, while the Jungle Rock Spa offers the perfect reset with its sauna, ice bath, and open-air treatment rooms. Every experience connects you deeper to this untouched island and its rhythm: real & raw.
